stuff i'm doing
thought i'd show you some of the things i've been up to besides knitting hats. these are the pics of some sweaters (mostly lambswool and cashmere) that i have felted and am re-constructing into armwarmers, ear bands, hats and bags.
these are in different stages of deconstruction/ re-creation. i love recycling stuff. the possibilities are endless!

When we were wintering in the RV last year (in NYS), I was cold for six months. I always wanted something on my neck, but scarves can become a pain if you're just sitting around. Do you ever recycle the necks of turtles in that way? I guess they'd have to be huge to survive the felting, wouldn't they?

Ducky- i have found that 100% cashmere does not felt like wool does. i had one cashmere turtle neck neck-part that may have worked, but i turned it into an ear band with pink angora handspun instead. never thought of it as a simple neck warmer...i have the body of a pink cashmere sweater that i may cut and sew to be a neck warmer. head for a thrift store and experiment!
What a great idea! And the soon-to-be-felted items are beautiful patterns; should make beautiful felted items.

Very nice, I have been trying to teach myself this off youtube but don't seem to get the wool felted well enough. If I have not learned by the RTR, maybe you can show me.

yeah, different wools felt differently, lots of agitation and hot water. sometimes it won't felt at all and then, pow, it felts right up. be glad to trade tips at the RTR!

Omg! I'm so glad that I found your fiber site! I'm in this fine wool textile collection stage with fine stuff wiring to be re furnished. I'm looking for a serger to be able to do seaming and edging, which is what I've seen in other products I'vee researched and collected. Is that your technique? Found your link on van dwellers.org
I love doing this too! You have some good ideas :-) I am currently looking for sweaters to turn into leg warmers.
