Mutt and Ron McDowell

My dear friend and traveling compadre has passed away. He died in his van outside of the Pub after spending time with his friends. These are the last pics I took of him and his buddy Mutt, when I was in San Antonio in march. How they adored each other! I will miss him so much.

The photos are of Ron and Mutt together, a picture of Mutt holding the screaming monkey Ron gave him, and a picture of us flying a kite over Ron's and my van in the desert at Slab City, CA.

I'm very sorry for your loss. He looks like a young man, and you can tell Mutt is his best friend. I don't know if he was ill for a while and had time to plan for him or whether he went suddenly and unexpectedly.

I haven't been following your blog for long and wonder whether arrangements have been made for someone to take Mutt. I'm sure Ron would have wanted that.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss, but glad your friend, Ron, is at peace.

Katie,

I'm so so sorry for your loss. He went after a celebration, but that never makes it easier on those of us left behind, does it? You have people who love you to support you. Be well.

Hi Sister Katie,
Thanks for posting pics of our Brother and friend, I never got to meet him in person, and am the poorer for it, but he'll live on in our hearts and minds forever. I am glad that when he passed, he was where he wanted to be, in the comfort of his van home.
Hugs to you my Sister, and everyone in the mobile community.

I'm very sorry to hear about this, Ron and I worked together for a many years at Dell in Austin. We shared an office together for quite a while back when we were in Braker C.

Do you have any information about a memorial service or funeral that you could pass on?

Randy- there is a memorial service Sunday at 10:00 am at the sunset funeral home in San Antonio. I am on the road now from pa, trying to get there. There is also a memorial the following Saturday at one of the austin pubs. If you are on FB friend me (twoknives katie) and there is a memorial page on there. When I stop to sleep I will post here again.

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts. I will respond more when I get to San Antonio.

Ron was a great friend. In 2000, we went to South Africa together and traveled clear across the country, ending in Kruger for 5 days. We met at B.B. Rovers sometimes several times a week when he lived in Austin. He will surely be missed there. There will be a Celebration at Rovers next weekend. We had lunch there about 5 months ago. http://www.bbrovers.com.

Katie, NO! I am speachless. Ron has been a very good friend to me. Dang. I"ve been in a remote area of the mountains for two weeks and am in town today trying to get caught up. Wish I could have been in S.A. TX. I'll miss him so much. Travel safely Katie. Tell his mother and sister I am sorry for their loss. I just can't believe this.

Oh, Swankie! I thought of you and how close you two were. Didn't know how to reach you. I have had time to process it, and I still don't believe it. I look at his empty chair everyday and just expect to see him yet. I saved you one of the prayer cards from the funeral. I will be bringing some of his ashes to the RTR.

Katie,
Thank you for saving me a Prayer Card... I'll see you in Jan. at RTR. I am still in shock... you just don't expect someone years younger than you to pass before you. Why is that so much harder to beleive/accept than an elderly person dying? The pain is great in either case, but it's just unreal when someone is so young. Yes, I just can't believe he is not here on this earth with us.
